Facebook's Worth More Than GE

At market close on Tuesday, social media network Facebook officially surpassed General Electric in market share. It's crazy to think about, but it's the reality we live in. Facebook, the social network created 11 years ago by Mark Zuckerberg and a few friends of his in a Harvard dorm room, is now worth more in market capitalization than GE, founded back in 1892. Tuesday, Facebook market shares hit a new high of $275 billion, jumping over GE sitting at $271 billion, reports CNBC. With its roughly 1.4 billion monthly active users, the social network looks primed to maintain that value for years to come, said Jim Luorio, managing director at TJM Institutional Services and a CNBC contributor. But the shift does not mean GE has lost relevance, said Jeff Kilburg, founder and CEO of KKM Financial and a CNBC contributor. He noted that the company shedding its financial arm and focusing on industrial segments gives it momentum moving forward.

Facebook Launches Video Ads

Video ads are red-hot on Facebook, and the social network will showcase the best of them every month, in nine verticals, in its new Video Ads Creative Spotlight. The social network said in a Facebook for Business post that Nielsen recently measured more than 300 campaigns featuring video ads, and it found that 73 percent of them showed “significant” lifts in ad recall, with an 86 percent average lift between test and control groups. People are more likely to pay attention to content that’s relevant to their interests, which means you’ll likely get better results if you customize your ad’s message for the people who see it. Consider creating unique videos (or different versions of the same video) for different audience segments.

Facebook 'exploring music streaming'

The social network is currently in the advanced stages of launching a music video service similar to YouTube that will pay artists for video streams using ad revenue. However, according to the music website Music Ally, this is a stepping stone on the way to a full music service that could make the market even more crowded. As well as Apple Music, which launched last week, and Spotify; Jay-Z's Tidal, Rdio, Deezer, Google and Microsoft are all competing for users. But Facebook has several differences with other technology companies that make a streaming service an interesting proposition. It is a free service. Unlike Apple, for example, people are not used to handing over their credit card details to the company.

Windows 10 Is Coming Soon

Good news for Microsoft: The enterprise doesn’t appear to be giving Windows 10 the cold shoulder Windows 8 got. A professional IT social networking platform. In the organization’s new study “Windows 10: Will it Soar?”, 96 percent of all IT professionals surveyed expressed some level of interest in Windows 10, and 74 percent said that they would likely upgrade their machines to the new platform within two years. While respondents had concerns about upgrading—79 percent suggested compatibility was a worry, and 65 percent noted that bugs in new operating systems are a common turnoff—it’s nonetheless a stronger track record than Windows 8 ever managed to achieve.
